WHO WE ARE
When it comes to flavors of music, Brett Weller and The Congregation (BWTC) has been best described as featuring a “gumbo of sounds”. Led by New Orleans native Brett Weller, this collective of artists have made their mark in a variety of settings through anthems of life, love, and honest humanity. Add these writings to the band’s raw blues and funk influence, and you will find BWTC brings a sound that is truly music for the soul. Damien Rice, Kaleo, Dustin Kensrue, and Mumford & Sons are a few of the many names included in the statement, “you sound similar to … ”, made by the BWTC faithful.
Celebrating the release of their debut album, Chances, BWTC has formed their line in the parade of sounds coming out of the “Big Easy”. The band has found success in their spirited live performances; involving every bit of their multi-genre style. Beginning with founding member, Brett Weller (vocals, guitar), BWTC was formed in 2014 following an experimental recording project released in 2013. Brett was immediately joined by his wife, the other founding member, Anna Weller (vocals, violin, keys). The duo soon collaborated with other New Orleans’ artists to record the All EP in 2014 under New Orleans’ independent label the Restoration Collective. Shortly after releasing this inspirational project and performing to a “packed house” at the Hard Rock Cafe New Orleans, the band began to find their stride. While drawing more inspiration from Brett and Anna’s Mississippi blues and folk-rock roots, this alliance led to the first rock single release “Without a Trace” in the Fall of 2015. This single would set the tone of what the band soon planned to bring to the table. Taking this sound into the studio in 2017, with producer and engineer Jonathan Turner, BWTC released their debut indie-rock/alternative album Chances in Summer 2017.
